The point is why should Bush have backed down from his statement?? They are an axis of evil, like it or not.
Why should the pope refrain from his comments??
Why Should a cartoonist be told what he can and cannot write and draw, especially when Muslims routinely publish cartoons far more offensive than the Danish ones. Are they entitled to dish it out while being insulated from similar indignities?
Why Should a moviemake be killed for a documentary-Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, brutally murdered by an angry Muslim on the streets of Amsterdam, he created the 10-minute movie Submission. The movie deals with the topic of violence against women in Islamic societies; telling the stories of four abused Muslim women.
Bottom line: No All of us should not be surprised.

They're not extremists, they are the norm! The extremist thing is a PC cop out. Islam is nuts and violent! It's not surprising at all. Islam is extreme and hypocritical to no end. The best part is that they will unintenionally kill some of their own during their mass hysteria. It just shows what happens when you get stupid people to believe in something, kinda like Dubya and his constituents.
I don't like religion, but the pope was dead on.

I havent heard any violence or treats associate with this incident. Why cant Muslims express that they are offened when a man who claims to be Gods representative on earth and has followers of 1 billion people quotes a hateful and bigoted person in a speech intended to explain violence committed by fringe Muslim elements? The problem we see today and have seen for some 1000 years is that Westerners (including so called academics) have made false and bigoted statements about Islam. And these statements are used as evidence and facts against Muslims. History tells a completely different story than the Emporer's statement quoted by the pope.

Maybe George Bush should not have said, "...the axis of evil." That kind of big talk is something you do in the movies, but you do not harass your possible enemy verbally unless you want him to start a war.
Frankly, I am not sure George Bush lives in the same world we do. It seems that his reality is more like a computer game. Maybe Bush really lives in a computer game reality.
