when you add a good player to your team (like ben wallace) that player will make a diff. and your team will be better and his teamates will be better as well.first, look at the suns, amare and marion are already good, suns all stars and best players at the time. you add steve nash, someone who can make a difference, helps the team win more and make players better and good enough to make all star team, look at boris diaw- most improved.look at miami, without shaq, wade wouldnt be an allstar starter.now for the bulls, they are good and can make playoffs w/o wallace, they did so for last 2 seasons.with him on the team they will be one of the top defensive teams, but how far will they go in the playoffs?how will they match up against former team pistons- better or worse?will ben gordon or kirk hinrich make it to the east allstar team?in my opinion, there are too many great guards in the east, but it is possible for ben to make it.pistons will be better, bulls have to get used to playing with wallace.

Ben Wallace will not help the Bulls go further. They are going to regret giving him that massive contract. People do seem to realize how much the other Piston players covered for his mistakes. In fact his weaknesses were shown when he played in the world games in 2002. Ben was unable to hold his man in front of him and his help defense was nonexistent. The players that were covering for his mistakes were not there and his weaknesses were exposed. Also he doesn't help the Bulls with their biggest need, offence in the paint.

People for whatever reason try to make him out to being this great defender. The truth of the matter is that Ben is a horrible man to man defender but is a very good help defender. The Pistons strength as a defensive team came from their defensive rotations. Most of the Pistons were not good individual, at best most were average, defenders (see Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace, and Sheed just to name a few). but their defensive rotations were excellent. So if a player was beat off the dribble you have another player rotate over to stop them or foul them (usually Ben, Sheed, or Prince). But if you isolate Ben, or Sheed fot that matter, they usually were beat by their man (see Shaq, Dwight, Dirk, or any good big man). His defense is so overrated because it is considered "sexy" because he blocks shots into the third row. That is why he got the DPY awards that last three years, because he blocks shots into the third row and not because he is a great defender. Defensively the Pistons could have got the same thing they are going to get from Ben for Ty Thomas and Tyson Chandler for half the price.

People also seem to forget that Ben is 33 years old and his numbers on the decline. If you look at his numbers from the 02-03 season (his peak year) till now you will see that his numbers have fallen in all of his major stat categories. In 02-03 he averaged 15.4 rbs and 3.15 blks and from that point on his numbers have been on the decline. If you think that pattern is going to change next season, you’re in for a rude awakening. Ben is an undersized Center that relies heavily on his athleticism (which is why his numbers are down) and his athleticism will only get worse the older he gets.

Pistons were the smart not to resign Ben for that price. Ben is not worth the money that he was paid. He is old and his defense is overrated. The biggest need for the Bulls was scoring in the paint (which happens to be Ben biggest weakness) not defense. The Bulls lost to the Heat not because they couldn't defend the paint but because they can't score in the paint. They need someone who can put his back to the basket and score. The Bulls should have tried to get David West instead of PJ Brown. West would have helped them out more then Ben will. At least West can score in the paint and with his back to the basket.

I don't think Ben Wallace will have the same effect on the Bulls that Nash had in Phoenix, because I don't think their problem has to do with defense and rebounding.

Last year, the Bulls were middle of the pack on defense, giving up about 97 points per game. I know Wallace will move them up further, but I think a better addition would have been someone who could improve their offense, which was right in the middle at 15th in the league. And as for rebounding, I don't know how much they needed Wallace there considering that the Bulls were third in the league when it comes to boards.

The Bulls will have a good, tough D, but I don't think Hinrich, Gordon, Nocioni and their bench will provide enough scoring to get them too far. I think defense is critical to win, but you need some scoring punch, and I don't see the Bulls having enough.
