before he had a hook he was also a proffesional foot massager
but one day when he was at the beach eating popcorn a seagull with a knife in its beak swooped down to get some popcorn and cut of his hand
so he had to end his massaging career and replaced his hand with a hook so he could follow his childhood dream of being a pirate
or he was born with it

curiously, his beginning call replaced into James Hook. it rather is merely organic accident that he lost a hand and won a hook in its place. possibly if his beginning call replaced into James Mallet, he'd have had a mallet geared up rather.
