My wife and I just had an argument. I took all of my pants (work, dress and recreation) to the tailor to have them made the same length. My wife says the inseem depents on the type of shoe you wear with it. I can't see how the shoe changes the distance from my crotch to my ankle.

Your right. Your inseam doesn't change. What your wife was probably thinking of applies more to women then men since we wear high heels. Leaving the inseam a bit longer looks better with heels. Unless you intend on wearing heels, have them all made to the length of a pair that fits you well.

The higher the heel is on your shoe the shorter your pants will look even if the inseam in the same. Say you measure your insame from the bottom of your feet barefoot to your crotch area and it is 34 inches. Then when you put flip flops on it might be 35 inches, but then if you wear nice dress shoes it might be 36 inches. Then your pants will be 2 inches too short. I suggest getting all your pants 2 inches longer than your inseam measurements.

Because taller shoes will make your pants shorter.
