That's a trick question.

Surprise to the ppl, yes.
Surprise to the government, no.

Yes, I am one of those conspiracy ppl that believe Cheney and Rumsfeld were behind 911.

I completely perceive another planned attack by the two of them after the 2008 election. They can not allow one before that election or the claim that they are keeping us safe will not be valid.

If a democrat wins in 2008, they will plan one for 2009 to validate their claims that democrats are weak and that voting in democrats creates more terrorism. Of course it is all bologna but that is what they will do.

Absolutly. It's all about oppritunity cost and scarcity. America could spend all of it's resources on being 100% secure and aware. While this would make the U.S. the safest country in the world there would be no resources left for anything else. The American government, just like any individual or firm, must determine what is an acceptable level of risk and then act according to the philisophy that sometime, somewhere, somehow its security will be threated and eventually breached. Simply look to the past to see empirical evidence of this (Pearl Harbor and 9/11 are prime examples).

Of course we will. If you mean, on the same scale as the World Trade Centers, that's anybody's guess. It would be easy to attack a venue that would result in the same loss of life, or worse, but the iconic stature of the Twin Towers is duplicated by relatively few landmarks, and we are on alert, now.

Coragryph's answer is pertinent. However, I think we may see an escalation of the average if our aggression in the Middle East is not throttled back.

As opposed to an expected attack?

The US is hit by a foreign terrorist attack roughly every 7-9 years, very consistently since the 1970s. And prior to that, it was even more frequent, but mainly domestic terrorists.

So, it's very likely that that average will continue, as long as there is violence on the world. And most such attacks will continue to come as a surprise, even though history keeps repeating itself.

Well it wouldn't really be a surprise if we were expecting it... But in all seriousness. Yeah. My personal guess is that within the next few months a dirty bomb will go off in L.A., Manhattan or some other large city. (Possibly vegas...which terrifies me...living here and all.)

But I'm going to hope that our government doesn't repeat 9/11 just to get more power.

Maybe. Since 9/11. Bush's policies have protected out country haven't they? You cannot deny that.

If God forbid a democrat is elected, we will be weakened and attacked. Just watch.

It's easier to attack us by surprise.

I'm afraid so,...we will be hit with many more in the years to come. We have many more enemys now than we did 5 or 6 years ago. They say we are safer now but i cant understand that,...our borders are very weak, and our troops are scattered in many places.
