I agree there should be a regular wage like everything else and no tipping.

To
Insure
Proper
Service
Regardless of where I am or what I'm paying, if there is poor service or no service as in fast-food there is no tip. However on the other hand if the service is good I tip between 15 to 18% if it is excellent 18 to 20%.
But you're right when I go to Starbucks why should I tip when it already cost twice that of a convienence store. Do you tip at the convienence store, Not me. I suppose some day we'll be expected the tip the cashier at the grocery store, lets see 15% of.... NO NO NO
What about tipping the person that makes up your room? She didn't clean up after me and how do I know if the previous guest left the room a mess or not.

I'm against tipping. Period. There's no reason for it, and it puts the people who solicit tips in the same category as the guy standing on the street corner begging for spare change.
If a person does an honest day's work, they should get an honest day's pay from their employer.
You don't tip nurses in the hospital, who bring you your medications. You don't tip the doctor who does your surgery. You don't tip the garage mechanic who gives your car a grease job. You don't tip the real estate agent who finds a house or apartment for you. Why not? These people are all performing services for you. They may be on a slightly different plane than the waitress who brings you your dinner or the barista at Starbucks who pours your coffee, but service is service. We should either tip everyone or tip no one.
The only reason tipping persists is because some employers can get away with paying chintzy wages and relying on the public to make up the difference.

Ok, you've already started complaining so that's the way to go about it. The trick is, in the morning, don't get out of bed, let them come get you. While you're up there, complain of stomach cramps and while you're bent over, moaning and wailing, lick your palms, but without too much saliva. It makes them feel clammy and is a non-specific symptom. Most people do think a phoney fever is the way to go, but if you have a worrying mother, you could end up in a doctor's office and that's worse than going to school. Lay back into bed and request a sick bucket. Then say that you feel a little dizzy and close your eyes. The dizzy spell always works my parents over and they wouldn't dream of sending me to school like that. If you really don't want to do all that then there are some ways to make youself throw up although I wouldn't recommend them. You can shove a couple of fingers down your throat and enforce the gag reflex. If you can't bring yourself to do that, then drink milk with orange juice at the same time. It will without a doubt make you sick. Good luck!

I agree with you 100% I mean some stuff tipping is ok, but I hate it when you go to a resterant, and you have this really big grouch for a waitress, then you are requiered to give the a certain % for tips.
I work at Dairy Queen, and the owners would never allow us to place a tip jar on the counter, I mean, if we do an exceptional job maybe some one will tip us once in awhile, but a tip is supposed to be as a 'thank you' gesture, not a required thing, and it makes me mad when I have to tip someone who I know doesn't even care about me

I agree with you 110%. A tip should be given in exchange for service, in particular, good service. When you buy something at a clothing store or drug store you don't give a tip. What you pay in part is for the service and being given the merchandise. At a fast food place, you pay for the food and service yourself. I also hate places that put a tip on your bill before you get it! I had a big fight one time because I refused to give an 18% tip when we received lousy service. I wound up calling the police and then the manager took the tip off.

I agree, they are making an hourly wage and they do not need to have a tip added on. It is as if they got jealous of people in the service industry getting tips and they decided they deserve them too. Waiters do not make even minimum wage and it has always been the norm to tip them. Now it seems like everyplace you go has a tip jar. If they want to start making 2.65 per hour I will be glad to tip them. If not, get the stupid tip jar out of my face.

Tip jars at the places you have mentioned began because some guy who is a regular fancies one of the girls behind the counter. His order is 3.65 , he pays with a 5.00 bill and tells her to keep the change. The other girls get jealous so a tip jar is put out so that all the "tips" are shared. I n my opinion it was not a tip to begin with but an incentive for her to keep being nice to him.

Only employees who are paid less than minimum wage because of anticipation of tipping and who provide some kind of a service over and above preparation are entitled to tips. Starbucks employees are paid by the hour to do their jobs (at least minumum wage), and should not be tipped.

I don't tip at fast food restaurants, and I don't do Starbucks-too expensive there. But at the coffee place I go to, they all know me and know exactly what I want when I roll up to the window. That kind of service is worthy of a tip.

Yes, I totally agree. I wish that waiters, hairdresser, porters and all the rest of them would just unionize to get fair wages so the whole concept of tipping would just disappear. A service is a service and it should have an assigned price and no more.
