It would be difficult to change him if he isn't into metamorphizing himself.
You can try introducing him to some lava..it might warm him up a bit. Other than that...how about planting some moss on him...he isn't going anywhere.

Put him in the bottom of a fish tank, or some kind of reptile, so that he'll have a friend to play with.
