yes, children who are able to understand riddles and simple jokes consistently score higher on I.Q. tests than their peers who miss the jokes.

Absolutely! The more intelligent you are, the more perspectives you have on every situation. Therefore you have more opportunity to discover the funny ha-ha's in life.
Of course, then there is the complete moron that laughs at everything as he drools into his lap. But the difference is "sensing humor". If you say you smell chocolate all the time, do you have a REALLY good sense of smell, or are you just crazy?

Yes, and no. An insane person would laugh at anything or everything. It is not intelligence. But again, to be a successful comedian, you've got to be intelligent.

Yes. Comedians need to possess quick wit and cleverness to make you laugh. Where as stupid people just need to be in the same room to make you laugh. I find that stupid people are geniuses when it comes to slap stick.
