The most recent estimates based on new data suggests that there are over 500,000,000,000 galaxies in the universe ( 500 billion).


However, it is likely there are far more than that due to obstructions in the data and underestimation in their calculations.

On the switch side, these calculations are based on a flat universe assumption. If we finally figure out the shape of the universe this number could possibly change.

The best estimates of visible galaxies are all about 100 billion.

But the funny thing is this. In the beginning the universe expanded very fast for a little while, carrying most galaxies so far away from us that we can never see them, even with a telescope.

So the real answer is trillions.

Last i heard about 100,000,000,000thats the last official ount perhaps as they explore more or develop newer technology the number will be higher Gorbalizer and that just this universe

No one knows. It's at least a trillion. Look at the Hubble Deep Field image and remember it's just one FOV.
