There are three girls in my COLLEGE level philosophy class who talk like this. Drives me nuts to hear them.

My daughter is 17 and she, like, talks like that. It goes back to the '80's with the Valley Girl Talk. My neighbor's daughter talked like that when she was a teen and we used to tease her about it. She's now 20 and SHE now teases my daughter! Hopefully, those college student girls will get over it and stop driving you and the rest of your class nuts!

From what you're saying, I would just tell him. I mean, it could be that he is just a touchy guy, with the hand grabbing and all, but if he's kinda shy, I would doubt that. I would say go for it, the worst thing that can happen is that he says he doesn't like you back

I used to drive a girl to school who spoke just like that. Drove me nuts, too. Like, you know?

Its a cool way of speaking. Maybe they do it to set themselves apart from other ages; not old but not a child either. Eventually they grow out of it. At least most do

how cool would that be if you mix that with ebonics?
it would sound something like this: like I rode down to KFC from like da crib becuz I'z been like down fo some fried chicken like....omg on my way down to da kfc I hit fo sho like some numbas and getting da booty call. now I'z like gotta pick up da kool aide and all like so I can get my like drink on!"

They think it's cute and they're trying to act like they're dumber than they are. "No one likes a smart girl" is what they think.
