X^3-2X=8
X(X^2-2)=8
either X=8 or X^2-2=8
X=8 or X^2=10
X=8 or X=3.2

X^3 -2X^2 -4X + 8. First and for many, we look for the factors of X^3 (that are x, x^2 & X^3) and + 8 (that are +a million, -a million, +2, -2, +4, -4, +8, -8) If X +2 is a ingredient, then X+2 = 0 then X= -2 . we replace for X =-2 in the expression i.e. (-2)^3 -2(-2)^2 - 4(-2) +8 =0 subsequently X+2 is ingredient. in addition, If X -2 is a ingredient, then X - 2= 0 and X = 2, replace for X = 2 in the expression i.e. (2)^3 -2(2)^2 -4(2) +8 = 0, subsequently X - 2 is ingredient X^3 -2X^2 -4X +8 = (X+2) (X-2) (X-2) are the factors

isn't it x^3+2x^2-4x-8
]when x=2 the expression vanishes
so x-2 is a factor
now synthetically dividing
1 2 -4 -8
0 2 8 8
1 4 4 0
the quotient is x^2+4x+4 which is (x+2)^2
so the factors are (x+2)^2(x-2)

I assume the question is x^3+2x^2-4x-8

= (x^3+2x^2) + (-4x-8) break to 2 pairs of terms
=x^2(x+2)-4(x+2) simplify each term
=(x+2) (x^2-4) (x+2) is common term.

I am sure you listed the problem wrong

Pull the X ^ squared out of x^3 and x^2 it is x^2(x + 1)
Now pull the negative 4 out of -4x-8 .... it is -4(x+2)

Now take the x^2 and the -4 and put in one paranthesis followed by other parenthesis

(x^2-4)(x+1)(x+2) now factor (x^2 - 4) ... it is (x+2)(x-2)

now you have all your answers of what x can be
(x+2)(X-2)(x+1)

It is something like this but I think you wrote the problem wrong!!

Simplify first:

x^2 - 2x - 8
(x + 2)(x - 4)

some of your answers shock me... You can't solve x unless it is has an equals sign in it!!!
I am sure you meant x squared + 2x - 4x - 8
if so the answer is (x+2) (x-4)
