Do you return your recyclables to get the deposit back?

I don't. Once I did. Collected 2 huge trash cans of plastic water bottles. I drove down to the recycle center, waited inline for 15 minutes and got $1.85.

Yes, I recycle. Not for the money but for the good of the environment. We donate our aluminum cans to a mission - they feed the poor with the money collected from recycling. Look at the big picture. If your time is too valuable to wait for the money perhaps you can have some one else drop off your donations for you.

I used to live in Michigan and when you buy carbonated drinks, you pay a mandatory deposit ($0.10 per can/bottle). A 12 pack of Coke could be on sale for $3.00, but you pay that additional $1.20 deposit, so if you don't return them, you're out all that money. $1.20 is nothing, but when you figure how many cases of pop and beer you go through in a month's time, it adds up. :)

I now live in Georgia (no bottle deposit) and it seems so weird to me to throw pop cans away.

I do and sometimes I ask neighbours if I can take theirs too because I am usually so broke that I really need that extra buck or two.

It is free money. If you are well-off enough that you can afford to throw them out then good for you. I wish you were closer so you could give them to me, I need the extra cash.

When I have time. Your saving the enviroment, abnd getting some money back. I got $7 once! I had no wait. Find their slow time and go then.

no doubt...thats why some neighborhood pict it up for you cause it more expensice and time consuming than its worth...unless you are an enviromentalist or an bum
