hey guys , this question may have a tint of metaphysics but think about it !

How sure are we of reality itself? If the physical universe is real then are things like the spirit or Soul real?

Reality is based on perception. A theory exists that roughly says: If you don't see it, then it didn't happen or doesn't exist. In order for something to exist it must be observed.

I like to define reality as the common perception of most people. You and I and everyone else observes pretty much the same world...our views may differ but you can see a tree as a tree, a rock as a rock, etc.

Hope that helps a bit.

Its like asking is the body real or the mind.If only seeing is believing , the mind cannot be seen ,that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You can't see yourself asleep , then how do you know that you had a good sleep or you had a bad dream ? It only implies that you were aware although your body was unaware(shut to external impulses) which definitely proves that you are not what you are seeing ; you are beyond the body & mind which you are observing.
There is a deeper & different meaning behind when a philosopher says
"This world is an illusion".Don't take the words literally.Try to see with your inner vision. For most of us external vision is perfect but our inner vision is blurred thats why we tend to commit mistakes as we don't see things in their totality.Have you ever thought what is it that gives life to this physical inert body. Can a car move by itself ? NO it requires a driver.Without him a car is as useless as a dead body !
Do you follow.....

Well, i think physically universe should be real. But what we see today from telescopes or satellites is the universe as it existed millions of years ago.Not the current image of universe.Bcoz light takes millions of years to come to earth from extreme parts of the universe. But since there are forces like gravity acting on us, universe have to be physically real. But about that metaphysical concepts of urs,i doubt it.
I dont deny the existence of supernatural forces.I percieve them as signals or interactions from another universe in a differerent dimension.BUT SOULS and SPIRITS are totally waste of time.A person once died can't recollect his memory and start a life as a soul. That's against the basic laws of nature. But still i think scientists are wasting time in the exploration of universe in search of a habitable planet.Even if they find such a planet, humans maynot be able to travel so far alive.

Common sense says that our senses are real and observation and perponderance of the evidence from different sources all point toward Objective Reality. Illusion and mass delusion are the realm of science fiction and those easily duped by religious dogma.

How about doing some simple checks......

How ever hard you press your hand on a iron table, your hand will not pass thru' it. This is possible if your body and that iron table was real matter.

But the best part is you can see/realize this "real world" only because "you" [i.e consciousness] are occupying your body.

Don't allow philosophers to make you believe that this an illusion.

That's a very interesting question. Humans only use about 1/10 of their brains, so its difficult to comprehend or really even figure out everything about the universe, or what reality truly is.

Nothing is possible and nothing is impossible it depends who you are where you are at any point in time because before there was a Universe there was nothing and nothing was possible but now because we think and learn anything is possible.
Take care!

If the universe is not real, then it isn't only astronomy that is pointless. Everything, including this question and answer, is pointless.

I asked my friends at Starfleet Intelligence, and they say that yes, the universe is real. And so are klingons, cardassians, etc. Live long and prosper my friend!

are you a reality, or an illusion? If you are an illusion, your question is an illusion, so why waste time answer it? ;-)
