"Technically" better, perhaps--there are players that have built-in radios (an extra $50 for iPod owners), can play WMA files, and, video-wise, aren't as finicky with their file formats.

But iPod's interface is still better, iTunes is stil the most successful and has the largest library of all the legal online media download stores, and there are still advantages to having an overwhelming market share--countless accessories and many choices for integrating the player into one's car or home.

Microsoft is hoping the Zune will give the iPod a run for its money, but I strongly doubt it. The iPod, miraculously, still has a cachet of "coolness" despite being in the mainstream, and nothing from Microsoft is regarded as "cool" that doesn't have the letter "x" or the word "box" in it.

There's a reason why Apple 'owns' the mp3 player market.

The new ipod nano's are so tiny, slick looking, great display. And now the battery lasts 24 hours. That's a lot!

great packaging. great user interface.

you could buy something from Creative that's pretty good for perhaps a bit less. They're starting to copy the ipod interface as best they can without violating the patents.

yes there is, apart from laptops with 15+ inch screens there is the archon sytem which has a 7 1/2 inch video screen and holds 40 gig much more than an ipod i'd much prefer to have audio / visual stimulation over audio only and IPods just dont offer this the video iPod is a waste of time the screen is too small

IMO, the SanDisk Sansa is better than the Apple iPod Nano flash based MP3 player line. Very similar product as the iPod Nano, but with more features such as built-in FM radio tuner, recording and video playback capabilities, user replaceable battery, memory expansion slot, custom EQ, etc. I want the e280 which is just now being released.

Many people say that other mp3 players are better than the iPod and for one can tell you that is a load of crap. iPods currently are the best due to their easy controls, perfect* syncronization with iTunes, sleekness, and the popularity of iTunes. Yes, Zens suck and so will Zunes, once someone has already switched to iPods, why would they switch to something that is unpopular, bigger but not better, and with an inferior music download site. no one really wants to see a ca$h wh0re like Microsoft conquer the music industry, and it wont happen.

Nothing yet. The great people who develop the Ipod keep rolling out Ideas and Products that people can't keep up with. Even Microsoft is having a hard time with it. But once they roll out their version of an mp3 player you will see more competition

Nothing... if you like your music overcompressed and played through shitty, tinny little earpieces. Get yourself a good hi-fi with kick *** speakers and listen to music in your favourite chair. A life lengthening experience, I kid you not.
