Calcium For Menstrual Cramps

I know that calcium and magnesium have to do w/ muscle balance and contraction and the lack of both can cause muscle cramps. I don't see how a calcium tablet could act quickly enough to relieve this? I'd be interested to see some answers, but it's good to take calcium and mag. possibly before your menstrual cycle in order to prevent them. But really, who cares as long as it provides relief. Sometimes in the medical community you don't know why things work, but as long as it does work and doesn't cause more harm, typically all for it! :-)
