Yes, it is called discrimination if you do not get hired for that reason. We are in a forever changing world and a lot of companies know that there are a variety of people that will interview for a position. No matter if you have piercings, tattoos, braids, dreds, etc, the job should be yours if you have the experience. The only time that I can see it being a problem is if the braids are really long and you are trying to get a job at a factory with very dangerous machines. It would be a safety violation and more then likely during the interview you would be asked to pull them back or wear a bandanna to where you would be out of harms way.

The answer realy depends on the job. For most corporate or professional jobs, no you probally would not get hired. To work in the professional business world you are expected to groom yourself in a manner consistent with a mainstream view on acceptable fashion. For positions that are hourly of skill based such as construction there would be no problem.
One poster said this would be discrimintion if you were not hired for the reqason of your hairstyle. That is not so. Age, sex, religion, and race are reasons for discrimination but hairstyle is not. Some companies actual have standards for appearance stating that you can not have jewelery or beards, or even wear certain styles of clothes
If you truly want a job take a look at what people in the field wear and how they groom and base your appearance off of those standards.

As long as he is neat, well groomed, and well qualified, I would consider it. A big factor though would be the type of business and the clientel. If my customers are primarily senior citizens who would take offence, that I would have to say "no" because my business would be ruined. If the customers are not a factor, then go for it.

I would consider hiring someone with those appalling hair styles if he were neat and well-groomed, but more importantly, he would have to be polite, well-spoken and educated. To me, those hair styles imply some ghetto funk thug off the streets. But I would look at the entire picture.

Yes. But the it would have to be short braids or dreds. We live in a society that judges by looks....I will not gamble with my business over someones head! If they demand respect / freedom of choice, then they can CHOOSE to go home, shave and start over.

DEPENDS on how he handled the crowd in our business. BUT most people if paid enough dont mind grooming to the business.LOOK at the stars some cut their hair totally off 4 a roll. SOME wear wigs, some have hair pieces added. NURSES wear their hair in a bun or cut it short. SO it depends on you will you bend if need be? or if you need the job bad enough? good luck

yes indeed i would [ in fact i have done that]
even a earring or two...........when hiring i would look at the person's level of skill, knowledge of the computer [a must] and interest and willing to work, a self starter and a team member.....[ in other words, what you look like is not a factor in my decision....]

well it really all depends on his qualifications for the job. if he presents himself professionally (neat & clean) and hes qualified then why not hire him? besides there are also laws against discriminating against people for things such as this...

Well the hairstyle is irrelevant..even though appearance is important and is the first impression, it would depend on his ability to fill the position.
