Is there any myth in British culture about a treasure buried in England? I'm researching for a paper.

Oh LOADS. Most relate to pirates or shipwrecks, some older ones to dragons and monsters, etc. I'm afraid I can't be very precise, as all the ones I know came from a myths and legends book a saw once long time ago, and their being none where I live. Most seemed to come from coastal areas like Devon or Cornwall though.

Not very many what you would call famous myths...

The pedlar of swaffham- a very old myth about a pedlar on his way to Norfolk from London is told of the location of buried treasure. this treasure he uses to rebuild Sophan church.

The generic myths of Ireland might be useful,

The Tales of Leprechaun's ( Irish spelling: Leprachan) and the hidden crocks of gold they were the guardians of come to mind.

off the top of my head these are the only two that come to mind, both should be search-able on the net.

I'm not sure if this is on point but i have read that 1. the wealth of the Buckingham palace/royal family is almost incalculable and that the crown jewels on display at the Tower of London is actually a replica of the real "crown" that is beneath in an underground vault.

Not myth but documented fact - one of the English kings' tresure hoard was sucked into quicksands in the Wash (Norfolk) when the carriage tried to cross, can't remember which king it was but was definitely true
