Hi, I'm a violinist and I love alt. rock music, so if anyone knows of some cool alt. rock bands that have a violinist in them, please tell me. Thanks!

I just like music that has violin in it because it's what I play. I don't want to actually join a band.

Yellowcard has many violin parts. Apocalyptica has strings, but it is cello, not violin. Also try Flogging Molly, they are a celtic punk rock band. They have many violin parts. I also play violin, and I've figured out some of the Flogging Molly parts. Also, try "Good Riddance" by Green Day, there's an awesome violin part on that song. The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" isn't alt. rock music, but it's still a cool violin part. I know there's a few more, I can't think of them at the moment though.

Blue October has a violinist. At least in the song "Hate Me". There's a violin on "Flood" by Jars of Clay.

Sex Gang Children has a violin on "Sebastiane".

The only group I know with a full on violinist is 4th Avenue Jones---they're a rock/soul/hip hop group (They are good. They had the 2nd best album of last year in my opinion) and her nickname is Gaylie (sp) bird. She is really, really good. I don't know if that's your thing though. You want their latest album though because the previous ones were strictly hip-hop. The last album was the best in their career.

Jefferson Airplane had an old black violinist named "Papa John" Creech. He knew how to jam, bigtime.

Kansas had a violinist.

Moody Blues used orchestral arrangements in lots of their songs to "sweeten" it a bit, think "Nights In White Satin".

Sorry, no Alt Rock in that bunch.

It's good to know a classic musician does not close her mind to other sort of music, let me suggest to you:

Kansas
Gentle Giant

They play progressive rock and their trademarks includes a good instrumentation and some songs with violin. Also Electric Light Orchestra, ahhh... you must hear their version of "Roll Over Bethoven", hope this would be useful to you!

Andrew Bird is a fine choice.
His latest CD "The Mysterious Production of Eggs" was a top pick of 2005.

Actually, Apocalyptica plays cellos, not violins, on their albums.

I don't think you would call her alt-rock, but Vanessa Mae is an absolute witch on the instrument. An electric one, at that.
