Let them waste their time and flounder. You can learn some good sales skills trying to sell anything, but the best lesson is failure, and MLM is the center of all failures, so let this family member learn. The bulk of MLMers refuse to listen to logic anyway, so don't waste YOUR time.
How priceless is Mexico4me's answer. What the difference between MLM and telling your friend about a movie she asks?...the difference is that you don't have a vested interest in whether they go see that movie, and you wont bug your friend to see the movie for weeks as though their life depends on whether they see it or not, you wont call them names and suggest they have a lack of knowlege because they don't want to see it, you wont put them on the phone with another naive goon as a 3 way call trying to convince them the movie is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Oh, and Mexico4me, the queen bee of MLM spam on yahoo questions, leaves the eloquent quote of, "People who were near poverty level call me to thank me for helping them earn a five figure a month income", yet search through her spam answers and you will find she has been in the business since only April. Yeah, if thats not typical MLM BS then what is?
The reason MLM has a bad rap is because they preach BS like this non stop and are naive enough to think that signing up people indefinitely is possible or deceptive enough to try to convince you that its fact.

You don't. Why would you want to shoot down a family members dreams based on something you know nothing about? Who says they're wasting their time? I would be willing to bet I earn more than you do and I am with a very reputable MLM company.
You need to do research before you decide to criticize an entire industry that you obviously have arbitrarily decided is a waste of time.
The only reason MLM has a bad rap is because of people like you know zero about marketing yet are constantly bashing it.
No, you don't need to bug all your family and friends, but if you have a product that will help them, you would be negligent in not sharing it with them. Have you never told a family member about a movie or restaurant that you thought was fantastic? If you did, you are doing exactly what network marketers are doing, and do tell what is wrong with that???
It is merely an alternate form of marketing where companies want their exclusive products out in the field using story telling methods of sales, so that people can get it into other people's hands.
I have people call me and thank me for changing their lives with my product.....any problem there?
People who were near poverty level call me to thank me for helping them earn a five figure a month income......is this bad?
Maybe just worry about your own income and retirement and let your family member build their residual income and who knows, they may buy you dinner when you're really down and out.

Just like any business venture, a person should check out the legitimacy of the opportunity. Check with the BBB, FTC and other such agencies. There are legal operating MLMs though it is hard to distinguish them from the illegal ones. It will take some research. And all you can do is point them to the information and hope they've made a good choice.

Just like drug addiction or alcoholism, you won't be able to help the person in MLM if they don't want the help themselves. One thing for certain, don't lend this person money, don't give them referrals when they come to you asking for a list of people to sell the "dream" to, and don't let them play any MLM tapes in your house or introduce you to anyone in the business who you don't know. You will just be asking for trouble. Also, if they offer to buy you lunch, ask them to not talk business whatsoever because they will look for every opportunity to slip the business into conversation whenever possible.
The MLM industry is very bad and unfortunately preys on the naive. Be certain to educate your other family members that this person might go to in order to save them before this disease takes over and you have multiple family members cashing in their credibility for a false hope.
Good luck, I don't envy you.

MLM is like the chicken pox. You need a good dose of it, before you realize what a disease it is... then you are good. Just pray your family member sees the light soon than later.
I had a family memeber recently join an MLM that had this juice that claimed to cure cancer. Well that is a relief..... they found a way to cure cancer... lol

Let them make their mistake. Hopefully they will learn from it and not do it again.
I have a family member who joins about 3 of these every year. I hear "This one is really different" every time. This family member has invested so much time, energy, and money into these pyramid schemes, and has gotten next to nothing back from them.
Be supportive when they figure it out. Nobody needs to hear "I told you so" when their dream falls apart.

I agree, that's the wave of the destiny. do not communicate them out of it. there is alot of solid money to be made fro multilevel marketing. in case you do your homework you will see that a ton of nicely understand authors and corporation experts are doing it now! in keeping with risk you should attempt it or come again into it.
