Yes, it is true. Everything depends on the amount of damage that was done to the nail bed. If there was significant damage, then there is a very high possibility that if the nail grows back at all, it will be damaged as well. The best thing to do is wait and see; it might take time for the damage to repair itself and for the nail to grow back. If it's been a few months already, I would suggest taking him to a doctor.

Yes I lost a toenail when I was 14. And it will grow back, just real slow. Keep it clean. Have him soak his foot once a week in diluted listerine. It kills those little germs (like the cartoon commerical) that could infect it. He may need a little extra calcium, from milk, cheese, etc.

I had my toenail cut off before. I used to run & my running shoes were a bit too small. Eventually my toenail came off. It grew back again. That's about all I can remember. If your really worried about it - contact your family doctor. Good Luck!

Give your son a break, where did you learn about that 75% crap all that you should do is clean it up,put some disinfectant on it wrap it up. Periodically check the toe, I mean in days not hours. Keep it clean you do not want the toe to be infected.

i stubbed my toe and lost my toenail and it took six months to grow back, then I did it to the other one! another six months! my friend had his removed because it was ingrown and only 3/4 of it came back. don't worry about it. your son can still paint the skin on his toe if he ever wants to paint his toenails.

I dont know generally, but I dropped a firewood log on my hand and lost a fingernail and it grew back just fine. Maybe it will just take some time.... although you'll probably get better info asking a doctor than a 'room' full of strangers.
