I am 18 and never played anything do you think it will be hard to pick up i want to try it to relax me

It is never too late to start. In fact I have a friend who started in 20s and got to intermediate level. Starting early obviously have advantages but being an adult you have better concentration and discipline if you are really into learning it. If you are in school, check if there's any classes. I highly recommend taking lessons from an experinced violin teacher, and make sure ask for credentials and references.

I wouldn't buy an instrument rightaway, you can use rentals and wait until you figure out you really like it. It does take at least a few months to be able to play some simple tunes. But once you get to a point you can play the pieces you like, it's enjoyment for life.
