i understand that there wil probably always b a bit of a difference, bit in this case the difference is quite significant

You will have less of a difference the more you train. Assuming you train the same on each arm. The difference you see probably has more to do with favoring the right arm, not the training. Anyway you shouldn't expect to see much difference from training till at least a month.

Kind of lay off on working your right arm for a while, and focus more on the left.

Sounds like you are uncounciously relying on your right side while lifting. Use free weights and dumbells rather than machines. If you are doing DB curls with say 25LB dumbells and you work to failure only do as many reps as your weakest side.
