You would need to buy a wireless router. They are about $50. Your would hook your current high speed (does not work with dial up) Internet connection into the router. Then run a cable from the router to your old computer. That computer when then have Internet access. The router will also broadcast a Internet signal that the wireless card in your laptop can pick up (You did buy a laptop with a wireless card, right?). It would also have Internet connection. Once you have brought the router, you do not have to pay extra to have both computers on the Internet. The router divides the one Internet signal between the two (or more) computers.

if u have dial up internet u cant hook more then one computer to the internet.... if u get a laptop and ur using high speed internet like dsl or cable, there are 2 things u can do
get a cross-over cable, its a cable that looks like a phone cord but bigger and has a twisted cable in it so that data is trasferd in a difrent way... with this if one computer had the internet u can acsess it by hooking both the computers together
or
u can get a router... there r to kinds wired and wireless.. wired is where i plug the internet into a box and u run a cable from the box to ur pc.... it takes 2 seconds to set up and u can also tansfer files between computers... a wireless is the same thing only therre r no cords going from ur pc to the router... thay r good if u have a computer that has a wireless card built into it, wireless costs more but is good for moble devices like a psp, palm pc, laptop or if u like using emulators u can emulate a nintendo ds....

If you just want to use the laptop in your house, then you can use your exsiting connection for both it and your current PC.
The best way to do this would be (assuming you are using ADSL/Cable) to buy a router. This can then be used to connect to the internet, and both computers are then plugged into, and can then access the internet.
Alternativley, you might want to use ICS(Internet Connection Sharing) in Windows. Advantages or this, are you don't need to buy a router, and it can be used with dial up. However, its probably going to be slower, and you need the PC that is sharing the internet connection, to be on when you want to use the other.
Instructions on how to setup ICS can be found in windows help. Search ICS.
Instuctions for setting up a router will be different depending on router and your internet connection type.
I would recommend the router. Its more flexible, and probably easier to setup. You can then add more devices as needed(e.g. games console)

Most new laptops have a wireless card built in to allow wireless access to the internet. If you have high speed internet access currently, you will need to purchase a wireless router to provide the signal. If you are not looking to have a wireless connection, then you would just plug the cable from your modem into your laptop.

If you already have internet access on another computer it is not much trouble to just switch computers and enter the correct options. With a router you can connect both to the same broadband connection.

There are places who offer free internet connection as you buy LAPTOP but in actualy case if you wants internet on the LAPTOP then you need to have a telephone connection first (land or mobile connection) however your LAPTOP should have the WIRELESS connection such as Blootooth or if u wants to connect using your hand phone otherwise cable connection will enable you to connect to the internet. Please check with your Local Service Provider (Which happens to be the TELEPHONE SERVICE PROVIDER) about the services offered...
If you choose to have DIAL UP connection which is the cheapest in all, then you should be prepared yourself to be patient coz DIAL UP connection is slower but if you choose to have ADSL Connection then you are guranteed to have faster connection.
DIAL UP connection will cost you based on the minutes you log in to the internet but ADSL connection normally has a standard rate and you must pay that cost whether or not you use the internet...
Enjoy...

A laptop and an Internet connection are unrelated.
They are two seperate purchases - or entities.
Any Internet connection will work on any computer yo will likely buy.
Use the connection wizard and it'll be easy.

in some cases you can get a wireless card and pick up wireless access just a bout any where as long as your not in antartica.. but otherwise you hasve install the dsl or dial up software and register the laptop with the same addresses. the best way is to purchase a router (wireless) on line (auction site) and jusdt use a wireless card in your laptop.

if you buy a laptop it is likely (new versions) to have a modem but nowadays eveyrone will be looking for intergrated wireless lan - where you will be able to "hookup" to a "hot spot" (e.g. in cafes) but mostly to be able to connect to a home router network.
Home network (wireless) will alow you to connect to your router anywhere in ur home. But, if you don't have a wirless router, then your wired router or modem will do (connect via USB port OR ethernet).
Obvioulsy, you will have to subscribe to an ISP for your internet connection.

If you're already paying for Internet service, it will work with any computer. Just configure it with the Connection Wizard.
