Is there any way to get around placing a product key for XP pro? Can this be cracked?

Yes you can do it but it is illegal. If you search the internet you can find a cracked key but you will have to download every windows update separately from the Microsoft web site and manually installing it. It is a very time consuming process and some of those updates you really need because Microsoft has never made a really good bug free OS. You are better off buying a real licience

Yes, there is. But it's not legal. Windows Update will install Windows Genuine Advantage which will detect the use of a pirated version and shut it down after a grace period of about 2 weeks.
