I am 39 weeks pregnant, 2 cm, 80% effaced and ready to go...I have tried everything but castor oil, has it worked for anyone? I need some advice on whether it worked and if so how much did it take and how long? Were you already dialated and effaced, if so how much?

NO castor oil does not work. I have had 4 children and barley pregnant with my 5th and final baby. I have tried castor oil with the first three, and it never worked. With my third I even tried something called black cohosh that is supposed to start labor and that did not work either. With my last baby I just did alot of walking, and also I had sex with my husband 1 day before my baby was born and that is what brought on the labor. When a women close to her due date has sex and she orgasms, it helps to bring the baby here. That should work for you especially if you are already 2 cm and 80 % effaced. Good luck and congragulations!!!!!

I took castor oil and it did definitely work for me. It took about 3 hours before I was in labor. I was already 3 cm and 75% effaced.

Just be careful - it is a natural laxitive, so there is a possibility that you will have to go. Don't worry - it's not too bad. The fact that it's a laxative is what makes it work for inducing labor. My mom is a nurse, and she said that they used to give women enemas (same effect) to go into labor. It tastes awful, though. I had to drink it with some orange juice. My doctor was actually the one who told me it would work, so if he suggested it, I'm guessing it's at least pretty safe.

As far as how much, I just remember drinking a swallow or 2 at a time until I had taken about 4 tablespoons or so.

Good Luck with your labor.

When I was 41 weeks pregnant, I took Castor Oil. I mixed 2 Tablespoons into a large vanilla Jack in the Box shake. My water broke 4 hours later. Good Luck!

I got desperate with my son and tried castor oil. I was 37 wks 90% effaced dialated 4cm and head was in 0 (for nearly a month!) and all it did was make me SOOOOOO sick! I took at at approx 7pm and I stayed up all night going to the bathroom. Not just like a little.. like tons and tons of discusting green goo.. my stomach rumbled.. I thought I was going to die. SOOOO not a good idea!!!! I got induced 3 days after that thank goodness.

Your body should go when ready. No medical professional that i know would ever recommend Castor oil. As long as the stress test are being done and everything is normal just wait till the baby is ready. You might not be live me (especially right after giving birth) but alot of women after having their child miss being pregnant.

I know I know Im a guy what the hell do I know..........But my wife (this sounds weird) used her exercise ball (its like 3 ft or so round) and she would bounce on it while stimulating her nipples and she delivered our daughter at 38 weeks naturally (water broke on its own and all) From the point of her water breaking (11:30 AM) to delivery (4:43PM) it all went really good and I also think that was fairly quick.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE CASTOR OIL IF YOU ARE ALREADY DIALATED. PEOPLE USE TO TAKE A TABLESPOON OF CASTOR OIL AND HAVE ACTUALLY HAD THEIR CHILD IN THE TOILET BECAUSE IT CAUSES DIARREAH. WITH DIARREAH IT GIVES AN URGE TO PUSH AND THE BABY CAN BE PUSHED OUT LIKE THAT. IF YOU WERE NOT ALREADY DIALATING, IT WOULD BE OK.

All I know is that it might NOT throw you into labor. It can and often times will just make you really sick and have to go to the bathroom all night long.

I wouldn't recommend it. Leave it to your baby to decide when he/she is ready to come. If you go to far over your due date, your doctor will induce you with a far better method!
