Well, I've played from 7 to X-2, and they all have their pros and cons.
Final Fantasy VII has a good story, and I really like the interchangeable materia system. With that, you can change up characters without sacrificing battle strategy. The ultimate weapons were great, and the Knights of the Round materia made really hard battles a lot easier. However, after a certain point, I never really saw much difference in gameplay when I leveled up. In the beginning, there was a big difference in power, but as you went along, the difference seems much smaller. Also, once you destroy the Weapons, which are not that hard, there really isn't much left to do.
Final Fantasy VIII has one of the best stories of the ones that I have played, and I really like the added quests on the side. Ultima Weapon was a bit of a pushover, but Omega Weapon was a great challenge. I liked trying to get all the cards, or obtaining 100 of all magics for every character, or some other ridiciously long task. However, your characters max out too quickly. Sometimes, I max out my characters before I even finish the game, without going through the side quests. Once you've done that, there is not much left.
Final Fantasy IX has an okay story, but what I love about that one is the bad guy. He has an flair about him that makes him so cool, but heartless and menacing. The Chocobo Treasure Hunt is great for finding new and rare items. However, gameplay is slow and awkward, and after you take out some added monsters here and there, there is nothing left.
Final Fantasy X and X-2 are my favorite.
FFX has a perfect story, great characters that you can't help but love, and gameplay that is even, fast, but still allows for strategy. The way you level up is perfect in the sense that there really is no end to your power (there really is, but it takes forever to get to that point). You can exceed the normal 9999 limit, and that combined with some special attacks, any character can cause extreme damage to any enemy. There are plenty of side quests to do, and with the exception of the Omega Weapon's quest, many are challenging. No matter how strong you get (and you can get extremely strong), there is at least one enemy out there that poses a threat to you. That's what keeps you coming back for more.
FFX-2's story isn't as good as FFX, but with all the twists and turns that it has, there are bound to be some issues with the story. Still, it is good enough to keep you entertained. The fact that you can jump from place to place in an instant to further the story is wonderful, and there are always rewards for going out of your way. The New Game Plus is great for those who have acquired some special skill or item, and want to keep it. To go through every possible scenario in this game takes forever, and just seeing where all this is going is enough to keep you going.
To play with, my favorite character was either Cloud or Tifa. Cloud's natural abilities made him exceed the others in strength, defense, and magic power. Both Cloud's and Tifa's limit breaks were super destructive, and they were great to watch.
Favorite characters were usually bad guys. I liked Sephiroth, Kuja, and Seymour. However, I really like Lulu. She was mean and cold, but she was so cool when she talked.

what are you talking about 8 is far, far too easy, so easy i can't be bothered to play it all the way through again, you just have to stand around in fights drawing all the magic you need, the enemies are all aligned to your current level so they're never difficult and if you get all the GF abilities to transform items you can get an unlimited supply of money by buying certain items and changing them, then selling them for more. I like the cards though but thats easy enough to control if you know how the rule changes work and gets reallysimple.
Final fantasy VII is the best game ever made, let alone the best FF. I must have played it through at least 10 times. FInal fantasy X is also pretty good, well not the actual game but Blitzball, the best sport game ever invented, i spent more time playing that than completing the game.
X-2 was too easy, you start with the airship and can move around too freely in a land that has barely changed from the first so theres nothing to explore. Oh and theres no blitzball. I did like the story though.
All the other main FF's are OK being 1-6 and 9 but that old style is not my preference.

Your actually wrong (with all due respect) In Kingdom Hearts 1, Leon, Yuffie, Cloud and Aerith were on Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for Playstation 1. Wakka and Tidus were on Final Fantasy 10 (which is the first to come out on Ps2) They are all great games, and were considered Greatest Hits from Sony. You can't go wrong with any of the 3

Final Fantasy 1 is a classic, then i would say 9, as it was ingeniously creative, then Crystal Chronicles for the Game Cube, and the Best of the Best is Final Fantasy 7, (despite the crappy block graphics the game itself is a masterpiece)
Final fantasy 10 was a huge dissapointment to me, and the voice overs were really bad. the graphics could have been so much better too.

Final Fantasy 10 is my favorite (I liked X-2 also), and Yuna is my favorite character. She is a great summoner, but very loyal and modest. She's really cool in X-2 also, because she is the main character!

FF8 was good... I really like Quistis...
But I think the original FF7 was the best... I've played that one all the way through twice now...
Have a little crush on Tifa...
My favorite music was on Chrono Trigger which was the second game with FF4 because FF3 for the NES was really rewritten for the playstation and became FF6....
