Yes you can. You have to talk to your IT Department to give you access from home. They would usually need approval from the higher management. Afterwhich, they would require you to be connected through a VPN which your IT Dept would usually provide you a random number generator to connect to the organization's network.

It depends on the settings and security options of your work network. Most modern day corporations will not allow employees to connect to their network unless they are using something called a VPN. Typically off-site access is limited to employees who have a legitimate need to connect/do off-site work.

Another thing to bear in mind: some service providers do not allow or support tunneling, which will prevent you from using a VPN even if it's available and authorized by your net admin. Check your ISP's terms of service.
