I am very glad that it is now law to have kids and babies safely restrained in cars... However a sinister thought has occured to me... how many of the MPs that voted for it have shares in car seat companies?
Mmmmmmmmmm!

Woah!!!
Hornets nest!
I'm not saying that they would have ONLY voted for it because of that!
But knowing that it was going to become law... would some of them profited from it?
And I DID say I thought it was a GOOD idea!
Heck!!!

I can't see why you're being slated for asking a perfectly valid question. The reason this country has laws against insider trading is because people do it. Our politicians (in general) have shown they are not above following their own agendas. (Hamilton, Aitken, Archer, Cooke, Blunkett).
Obviously these companies have some very happy shareholders at the moment. It would be interesting to know if any MP's have bought shares in them in the last year.
As regards the law itself, while it will undoubtedly save some lives or injuries, there are anomalies.
It states children below the age of 12, below 4' 5". Legally it exempts children over the age of 12 even if they are smaller.
It is also another tax on those who can least afford it; namely poorer families who are more likely to have larger families and are least likely to be able to afford to comply.

I think it's a good idea to make it law that BABIES and SMALL children are restrained in car seats. However, I think it's ridiculous that some states, including the one in which I live, have now made it a law that children up to 4'9" have to be in a car seat. I know some adults who are just barely 4'9". Do they need to be in car seats too? How about if they're driving?

Car seats for infants and children, have a high incidence of being recalled. I cannot understand how they can be profitable. Every state votes it's own laws. So I doubt that it is related to stock prices.

it already was a law - they have just adjusted it and brought it in line with EU regs. The biggest diff is now children must use seats till they are 12 or over a certain height.

I think it's a good idea, nothing worse than kids flapping about in the car. Going to have to get a new car now though, 3 car seats won't fit in the back of my car.

Good point, but I'm sure they're just trying to cut down. They probably have thousands of letters complaining because there ISN'T a law.
