Does your machine have a "wireless" network adapter?

What router are you using?

If you answer theses questions perhaps I can help.

Have fun but be safe!

There are multiple types of wireless routers. They are designated with a letter, most commonly a, b, or g. The wireless adapter in your mother's computer has to match the wireless router. If they match, and chances are that they do, make sure that your mother has the correct drivers installed on her computer. The computer should have come with a CD that contains the drivers for it. You may have to reinstall the driver for the wireless adapter. You should also go to the control panel and find the wireless networks. Search for wireless networks in range, and see if it picks up the network. Continue doing this throught the rest of what I reccomend. If this still does not solve the problem, make sure that both your computer and her's is on, with the wireless adapters on (usually a button on the side or top of the keyboard on laptops). Then, shut both computers down, and unplug the wireless router for about 5 minutes. Then plug the router back in, and turn on both computers. I frequently have to do this at my house when a new computer is added to the network. If this does not work, there could possibly be a problem with your mother's wireless adapter. A new one can be purchased at a Walmart or any other store that sells computer accessories for about $30.00. Make sure to get an external adapter that plugs into a USB port, not inside of your computer. Install the software for this new adapter, and then plug the adapter into your mother's computer. If this STILL does not allow your mother to connect to the network, you might want to look into contacting the manufacturer of the computer and having it looked at. Hopefully, the computer is still under warrenty.

most likely there is a problem with either the type of wireless connection, such as A,B, or G. Not all of these work together. It may also be the settings on the router itself. It may be blocking any other incoming IPs and only allowing your computer which was first set up on it. If you can't see it at all, then broadcast is turned off on the router and will have to be enabled

Do you have a wireless adapter connected to your computer? Do you have your router configured to allow the computer to be a part of the network?
Could be many reasons but these are the most common.
