almost all these type of movies have the same script .These aliens come all the way on their space ships from mars or wherever and the only place in the whole wide world they think of targetting is America paticularly NY . Then what happens is American president adresses the nation through Tv (asks Americans and the world to stand united against Extra Terristrial Terror) .Next you know what happens hero enters scene and its time for the Aliens to make a run for their planet but if you thought that is the end of them you are wrong while leaving earth they left a piece of them here and they will be back .

I know, it's ridiculous. If alien beings made it to earth they are likely to be thousands of years more advanced than us. In the movies they simply just fly down in their ships and let themselves get shot out of the sky by an American hero with some troubles in his private life. If aliens really came to earth they would most likely take the planet apart from a distance how and when they wish. Humans can't comprehend how true alien beings would act, because our evolutionary path is completely different and unique. So why don't movie producers take some scientific fact into consideration when they make science fiction movies?

I believe there are only 7 basic plots for all of literature, including screenplays. There's no intrisic plot difference between 'ID4' and a John Wayne movie. What makes it interesting is characterization and character interaction. Good actors bring something new to the story.
Besides that, the special effects are fun and it's not a bad way to turn off your brain for a couple of hours.

Yes. Sigh.....all those great works of science fiction seem to get ignored because movie producers think the general public is too stupid to understand them. If that were really the case, Stanley Kubrick's 2001 would have been a total bomb.
