Fuel Economy Vehicles, Gasoline/Petrol, Diesel or Hybrids, Which would you choose ?>?

I want to know from people around the world, if you have to buy n a vehicle to save as much fuel as possible, according to your lifestyle, country and finances, which of these powertrains would you choose to save money?

why would you choose the drivetrain and why does it benefit your lifestyle?

Well I work for a car dealership, and have driven, sold, and experienced the repairs of all sorts of cars. Every driver has their particular profile of why they should purchase a particular sort of vehicle. While you do get wonderful gas mileage from Hybrid vehicles and they are great for the Earth, they are NOT for everyone...they are priced highly and the car only really saves you money if you drive TONS of miles a year. The money you save from gasoline purchases is not really money saved at all, over the course of 4 years which is about the average length that people tend to own cars.

For example, a regular civic costs anywhere from 3k-5k less than a hybrid civic, so if you only keep your car for five years, the extra costs that you paid for the vehicle exceeds the amount you may have saved in gas purchases. And in 2007 they are cutting the tax break for those with hybrid vehicles.

and as far as helping the enviroment, every car has to pass enviromental test and a large percentage of cars have an ultra low emissions rating or better.

So, my recommendation...base your car purchase on how long you plan on owning the vehicle, how many miles you drive a year and how much you want to spend. I regular camry is just as efficient as a hybrid in the long run and you can save yourelf some money and some grief!

Is electric an option? In Nepal, at least in Kathmandu, electric vehicles definately. First of all, kathmandu is a small place, and so a car that will give you 70-80 km per day is fine. Also, the roads are small, and easily get congested, and hence high speeds of 50+ kmph is not needed.Secondly, Nepal has to import all petroleum products, and these are really expensive, despite the subsidies provided by the government, which has essentially driven Nepal Oil Association into heavy debt. Apart from that you also have problems such as pollution, global warming, health issues. Also, I'm guessing here, electricity is cheaper to run your vehicle with, compared to petrol and diesel.

I would go with a hybrid car, but they are probably the most expensive of the 3 to repair. But, a lot of hybrid cars are now more reliable and more stylish like the Camry hybrid and Accord hybrid, plus their fuel efficiency is great.
