The transmitter signal probably matches someone else's remote control in your neighborhood. When they use their remote, it also triggers yours. You can easily change your code in the box in the garage ceiling.

Here's a thought no one has mentioned yet and it may be your problem. The opener is made to open back up if it hits something while closing (safety feature) this is called a limit switch. It is adjusted using two knobs on the door opener box itself. Using a stepladder under the box (stay away from the area where the door comes up) and work the control to close.
See if it touches the floor and starts back up. If it is set too close it will start back after touching the floor hard. You have to adjust
the knob that controls that limit setting. You probably don't have the handbook for the opener.
If you find out that the control is the cause, there are a series of switches inside the remote numbered from 0 thru 9. Pick a different setting and on the back of the opener itself there is a cover which also has switches 0 thru 9. Make sure both are set to the same numbers.
Hope this helps!

Gremlins,maybe?
Seriously, with all the remote controls in our neighborhood,it was only a matter of time that signals have crossed.Remember the old baby monitors we would overhear when we used CB's?
Same principle, there are only so many radio waves vs.transmitters.Someone in the neighborhood is on the same wavelength as your.Check around to see who got a new garage door opener.

Inside the receiver unit are little black microchips. These can be added and/or removed to alter the signal code. Sometimes cell phones in a passing car can cause a signal activation. Point of interest, if the police in Miami,Fl stop you with numerous garage door openers, these are considered burglars tools.

Watch to see if anyone else's garage doow opens and closes at the same time as yours. Almost all openers work on the same frequency. If it is caused by someone elses remote, see if it's possible to chenge the coding. Older models allow you to flip switches on the remote and the opener to set a special code. Just rememebr that the remote and opener switches must match.

Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters. Your garage door receiver is getting a stray signal. Or the wires leading from it or the wall switch are shorting out. Someone nearby is using the same frequency as you are. Reset the dip switches in the receiver and transmitter.
