Unsecured networks are dangerous. You leave yourself open to hacking, but more importantly you also allow access to anyone who is in range and wireless. Whether you realize it or not, your router gets a set IP address from your ISP. All connections traveling out appear to come from that IP address. If someone taps into your network and uses it for illegal activity (kiddie porn, hacking, DOS attacks, etc.) it will be your door the police come knocking on. While you may be able to prove your innocence in the end, the interim time spent trying to do this will be uncomfortable at best.

Additional Info: If you insist on remaining unsecure. I would advise that you disable the Broadcast Network Name (SSID) feature. You can find it in your router's control program under wireless settings.

Depends where you live. If you live in a very quite and fairly unpopulated rural area (e.g. a small village or hamlet) then I suppose it is safe enough. If you live in a big city, then a thousand "no"s! It's up to you, but if I were you I'd keep everything encrypted and secure.

No it's not, there was a recent case where someone was arrested for downloading paedophilia , he was innocent, it was a neighbour downloading through his unsecure WIFI, he had a hard time proving his innocence.

i wouldnt leave it unsecured, anyone next to ur house can retrieve a signal. either start using ur internet service, which makes ur slower. if they really smart, its possible for them to hack into ur pc , look at ur personal files. thats y i strongly recommend to encrypt it. give rights to selected computers in ur household to access internet only.

you could, yet its no longer surprisingly intelligent. no less than you may upload a password and supply it on your friends in case you decide on, or turn off SSID Broadcasting so your community isn't broadcasted to those that do not know the SSID. in case you go away it huge open you're beginning your self to hackers and id thieves to snipe your community.
