Hollywood has made numerous versions of movies, so why not Gone with the Wind? I'd love to see an updated version!

Sooner or later, like it or not - it's going to happen.
Remember - tomorrow is another day.

"Sequel
Rumors of Hollywood producing a sequel to this film persisted for decades until 1994, when a sequel was finally produced for television, based upon Alexandra Ripley's novel, Scarlett, itself a sequel to Mitchell's original. Both the book and mini-series were met with mixed reviews. In the TV version, British actors played both key roles: Welsh-born actor Timothy Dalton played Rhett while Manchester-born Joanne Whalley played Scarlett.

Remake
Since about 1989 (the film's 50th Anniversary), it has been rumored that GWTW would be remade, most agree that if there are plans for a grand remake, 2009 should be the release year as to celebrate the film's 70th Anniversary."

I sincerely HOPE they haven't remade it yet!! Film producers and studios attempting to remake the silver screen classics is so absurd. Does anyone remember when they tried to get Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez to play Rick and Ilsa in a "Casablanca" remake? Never been more relieved THAT project was scrapped before it was too late!!! But, yeah, a "Gone with the Wind" remake is just as tacky and would only drive home MORE absurdly what Hollywood is REALLY about.

Another one that gets me is they're remaking "Hairspray"--HAIRSPRAY!!!! Can you believe that?? For the love of all that is sacred...

Remaking "Gone With the Wind" would be like repainting the Mona Lisa - they made a movie (mini-series) of the continuation of the story and it sucked! Vivien Leigh is the one and only Scarlett O'Hara!

Yes the movie is great in a lot of ways, but come on guys! Of course it can be improved upon. I'd love to see a version without all the racist portrayals of black slaves for one thing.

Actually, I don't think they could remake this movie today and have it anywhere near as good.

Could anyone other than Scarlett Ohara or Clark Gable or Olivia DeHavilland do justice to the roles?

Maybe because we don't want to see a remake with Paris Hilton and Ashton Cutcher.

They can't remake GWTW, it would be like a band playing Freebird. It has been done already and there is no sense doing it again.

I have always been disappointed that there hasn't been a sequel to GWTW though. There is a book that is written much in the same style and I don't get it why someone hasn't made it into a screenplay. I wonder who would be Scarlet?

I LOVE the movie, and Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable are two jewels in it. It MUST never be remade!

It is one of the best classics there is. You can't make that movie any better or even come close to it.

Some things are not meant to be touched.
