a compact car is compact(small)economy car means fuel economy which could be a compact car or a mid sized car even some full size cars are economy cars

WRX/ STI....takes premium gas, gives 22miles per gallon, compact in size.
Honda Civic takes regular gas, gives 36 miles per gallon, compact but economical.
