Once you leave school you will look back at this time and wonder why on earth it mattered to you. From my experience the "in-crowd" were all pretentious back-stabbers who went on to do nothing with their lives.
Be true to yourself and don't worry about being popular or having people pay attention to you.
You will like yourself a lot more if you do that.

Sometimes the only ones that like the people in the so called "in crowd" are only themselves. Popularity and the "in crowd" are not the same thing. A popular person is normally well liked by all and they like everybody (or are atleast respectful of everyone). When you get older - you will see this - and probably be glad that you did not hang out with the "in crowd".:)

the definition from Wikipedia says this about popularity:
General popularity usually involves respect in two directions: the popular person is respected by his peers, and will simultaneously show them respect, thus reinforcing their belief that he is deserving of his popularity. Likewise, amicability is an important component of popularity, as a person who does not like others is unlikely to be liked by others. This reciprocal nature of interpersonal popularity is often overlooked by people (particularly the young) who are attempting to become popular: being loud or a show-off may be successful in gaining attention, but is unlikely to provide the necessary mutual respect characteristic of "true popularity".

I imagine you are in high school. Trust me, you will grow into your own. Whoever said high school was the best time of your life was smoking something and doesn't remember those years.

As for fitting in, honestly, it's not all it's cracked up to be. I'm quite happy now that I didn't have a sheep mentality in highschool. I really felt like, through all the confusion, I came out of it all pretty well.

Don't even think about the "in crowd"...they don't matter! Who cares? I take it you are in high school. Don't worry, life gets better after graduation for the outsiders. On the other hand, life goes downhill for the in crowd once the stupidity of high school is over. Trust me, it gets better!
