I am 4 weeks pregnant. I have been having some very mild cramps on and off for couple of weeks now, nothing particuarly painful, similar to period cramps but lighter. I wasn't too worried about them but called a doctor just to check everything was ok. What he said has now terrified me and I'm really worried. He says that there is probably something wrong with the pregnancy and i have a high chance of misscaraige. When I said that I have been having these little cramps for a while now but not constantly, and could it be just my body adjusting to the pregnancy, he told me that is an old wives tale, and u don't get cramps in early pregnancy????? I am absolutely terrified now. I have had a misscariage a few years ago and am really worried. Has anyone out there experienced cramps in early pregnancy?? and if so, what were they like and how long did it go on for??

Firstly, get yourself a new doctor. Secondly, try to stop worrying. Light cramps in early pregnancy are completely normal. I had some period-like cramping for almost the whole of the first trimester and i'm currently 35.5 weeks pregnant.
The baby grows so quickly during the first trimester that it would be ridiculous to assume that you wouldn't feel any side-effects of this.
As for your doctor he should have his licence to practice revoked. How can he make a sweeping statement like that without performing any tests on which to base his opinion.

I was about 4 weeks along with my son. I had some bleeding and went to the emergency room. The doctors there told me that everything still looked ok, but that I would eventually lose the baby. They told me to make an appointment with my doctor the next day. Then they sent me home, telling me that the miscarriage would happen and there was nothing to be done to stop it.
The next day I went to the doctor. The doctor told me the same thing.
My son is now 7 years old.
I'm not saying that everything is ok with you. I am just saying that the doctors don't always know for sure. The best thing for you to do is to see your doctor. If he won't see you, then find another doctor. The cramps may not even be related to the pregnancy at all. Resting with your feet up won't hurt anything either.
Lots of luck.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and have had cramps on a regular basis. Usually it's just gas, but mostly it's just the stretching of the muscles and your body getting used to carrying the extra package. If you are that worried about it, go to the doctor. If he says miscarriage, get a second opinion. Don't start worrying too much. All of that stress isn't good for the baby. Good luck and congrats.

for the most part, cramps in pregnancy do end up in miscarriage.
Cramps
Cramping is quite common in early pregnancy. Cramps are particularly likely after sexual activity or when your bladder is full. In the first trimester cramping is considered normal.

good luck: whatever is going to happen is going to happen. So do not stress about it. The more you stress the more your chances of having a miscarriage will rise.

firstly please calm down...the more you stress the more stress is on the baby. It is normal to hav minor cramping early in pregnancy ( its your uterus stretching) if the cramp got wors or more frequent or are accompanied by bleeding then go to the hospital. I too had this and eventually miscarried but the cramps weer bad and i was bleeding ( i am not saying this i s going to happen to you it is probably nothing in your case) ...now the reason your doc said you are at risk for m/c is because you have had a m/c bfore...the chanc are slightly higher if you have already had on ( slightly) just try and relax..saty off you feet thats about all you can do good luck please try to stay calm

I went to the ER for cramping when I was 8 wks. The doctors in the ER are crap. That's because theyre just family practice doctors and not ob/gyn's. They wanted to do all kinds of stuff to me .... give me an x-ray, operate on me with out knowing what was wrong .... they finally called my doctor and he told them not to do those things!! The pain went away hours later and my doc said that it was a cyst that erupted (thats what caused the pain) then my body absorbed it and the pain went away.

I second the motion of finding a new doctor. He sounds kind of insensitive. He shouldn't be filling you with false hopes but to outright tell you that you're probably going to lose it was kind of cold. From everything that I've read, light cramps are common, but if you're high risk &/or experienced miscarriage before I'd try to find a doctor with experience in that area.

I did, and it is normal... it is your body adjusting. They also say that you don't have round ligament pain until the second trimester, but I had it from 3 weeks on! that may be what you are having as well...
Try not to worry, at least until you've spoken to another ob about it. I would definately get a second opinion.
That doctor you asked sounds like a jerk!
