All the stupid TV shows have made people stupid. You are what you watch! Thank God they won't be around to much longer.

Here's my theory:
With all the stuff that's going on in Iraq and the Middle East, the affairs in the White House, peace talks failing, terrorist attacks being foiled, and all the other shocking headlines in the past since reality TV came on board (desensitization and scandal in the Catholic Church, child exploitations, lawsuits every time you turn around, murders and police brutalities, another school shooting like the recent one in Montreal), coupled with all the celebrity breakups and scandals, it seems that the news is either too depressing, too scary/violent, or too gossipy.
Consider these lines in Billy Gillman's first hit from 2000/2001, "One Voice": "And Mom won't watch the news at night/There's too much stuff that's making her cry." Pretty much reflects the news situation that's still going on right now.
Reality TV is seen as a comfort zone for people who want reality, yet don't want to think about the cruelities, harshness and scandal of the outside world for a given amount of time. And I think only when the Iraq crisis is finally solved, at least, will reality TV finall go away, though I won't hold my breath here.

I watch most of them, as much as I hate to admit it! I think it helps me escape my reality sometimes. But some reality shows, like Dream Homemaker are really touching and shows that good people still do exist. As for other shows like American Idol, it shows dreams can come true. Laguna Beach... I have to admit, I watch because I'm envious. I wish I had a house like them, the gorgeous clothes they wear, the nice cars, hot guys, ect.

Probably because they like watching "normal, everyday people" make total fools of themselves.
