Mexicans believe in evil spirits, they can curse you very easily. One curse is when you will have hair or some foreign matter in every plate of food you eat. No matter where or who prepared it. The "cure' is to go to a medicine woman, take her a raw egg and she will rub it over your body, while saying some chant, it will remove the curse and when the egg is broken it will be full of hair. Also if you comment on a child's beauty but do not touch it, then it is a lie and it will have a O'JO, or the evil eye. You have to find the person that made the comment and force them to touch in infant or it will be ill all it's childhood. They believe that if you wear a small brass safety pin in you undergarments whhen you are pregnant it will protect the child, and one the infant is born it needs to be place in the diaper shirt to continue the charm. They also believe if a pregant women raises her hands above her head like when hanging out clothes, it can cause the umbilical cord to wrap around the neck of the infant. If a pregnant women sees something traumatic, it can affect the infant and cause it to be deformed in some way. The also believe in all types of teas for every ailment from stomach ache to misscarriage. They also think that if a child is sick, and the fontenell is sunken from dehydration, that placing a raw egg in fontenell will draw out the fontenell and cure the illness.
My grandmother believed that you could cure a chest cold by placing a vest of flannel soaked in kerosene and oil on the person. They also think that placing the inside membrane of an egg will draw out the poision of a abcess or boil. And that boils are caused by bad blood. And that castor or cod liver oil will cure just about everything from belly pain to pms!!

Great question! Thanks for posting! It's been a lot of fun reading the answers. Now to my Grandma...

A glass of flat ginger-ale for an upset stomach.

A teaspoon of honey for a cold or flu.

Want your whites white? This is what my Grandma did when she was a young woman - on the farm and before indoor plumbing.

Collect all the urine from the all the bedroom "thunder-mugs!" Soak your whites in the urine for a couple of hours then wash.

Urine is also supposed to be a good cure for facial acne and pimples. Pee on your finger before bed and dab the urine on the pimple. Next morning it will be gone.

Urine is also a cure for blisters according to my Grandma. And finally...

Want to get rid of blood? Dampen the blood spot with cold water then pour salt directly over it - covering all the blood stain. Scrub and voila! The blood will vanish!

Wonder if this would work for CSI? Interesting question.

Mix cayenne pepper with enough crisco to make a paste and rub it onto aching joints and muscles. It works just as well as the expensive mentholatum cremes.

Cayenne Pepper sprinkled onto a bleeding wound stops bleeding. Stings a bit, but stops the bleeding quickly!

Best of all, this is afe for everyone!

Apple cider vinegar (a spoonful or so) helps. So does a few sips of dill pickle juice. And there's the old standby of a teaspoonful of baking soda in a few ounces of water. It helps to avoid it by not eating meat fats in the evening; no tomato sauces after noon, and stay away from sugar.

Upper respiratory infection with a fever:

Wet sock technique:

Soak you feet for 5-7 minutes in water as hot as you can stand. Then get a blanket and soak your feet in cool water for 5-7 minutes in your socks. Then put wool or cotton dry pair of socks over the wet socks and go to sleep. As your circulation tries to warm the feet, it get rid of the congestion in your head and relieves stuffed up nose.

Rubbing alcohol will get any stain out of just about anything. I got a huge blood stain out of a pair of pj's (don't ask), and also a cranberry juice stain out of carpet with it. Pour the alcohol on the stain, let it sit for a few, then rub it out. Works well!

Grandma's TIPS: How to beat illness through Healthy Eating

Insomnia:
Eat plenty of curd or drink a glass of water with 2 teaspoons of honey.

Jaundice:
Mesh a ripe banana along with one tablespoon of honey and eat it twice a day, or take 1/2 teaspoon of ginger juice with one teaspoon of fresh lime and mint. The juice of Bel fruit is also good for the lever.

Joint Pains:
Squeeze half a lemon in one glass of hot water and drink it 8 to 10 times a day. Having lemon juice gives your body Vitamin C that is valuable. Massage your joints with neem oil.

Blood Pressure:
Swallow 2 flakes of garlic daily. High blood pressure can be cured by daily intake of 1/4 teaspoon of pepper powder mixed with 1/4 cup of curd on an empty stomach.

High Cholesterol and Heart Diseases:

For an ingrown toenail, cut a v-notch in the middle of the nail. The nail will grow to fill in the notch instead of growing into your toe.
