I am angry that muslims are so offended he quoted a 14th century book about a conversation that took place about 800 yrs ago! Now he's trying to revive the Crusades? c'mon people! If anything the Muslims are, they seem to be the only ones fighting in the name of a religous icon! Not us! To be honest even after 800 yrs they are still not off the mark. - "The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the pope said. "He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"- You dont see christians blowing themselves up! And since the Spainish Inquisition we have not used violence to recruit new christians. I think they are pissed c/ he is correct!

I am not talking about christian extremists, we are not taught to perpetuate a " holy war " in christian teachings, we are taught "To turn the other the other cheek"

Here's a link to the BBC article, which contains a downloadable file of the speech.

The Muslims are purposely taking it out of context as an excuse to be offended, as usual. Its getting very old.

"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached,'" is somehow considered "not offensive" now? You aren't offended when people say false things about your faith? And you really think that it's acceptable because they weren't his words--he certainly had every option to *not* use them. Look at me! Right now I am not quoting any offensive old people! You can do it too!
And bythe way? There are Christian extremists. They do bad things in the name of a religion that only preaches peace, the name of their God who is peace. Sound familiar? It should. I'd like to think that they are as uncommon as Muslim ones... and there are other ways to hurt your fellow man violently than actual physical violence done yourself. Christian extremists are well known for that.
EDIT then..
Uh.. yeah, we are taught to wage a holy war--not literally with vilence against other people, but we do fight for what we believe in and for what is right. And if you're intentionally comparing the rare Islamic extremist to the common Christian, then... I would still have mentioned rare Christian extremists and common peaceful Muslims, I'd only have been a little more annoyed that you did do it purposely.

Whether or not the Pope is right or wrong is not the issue. He shouldn't have made the remark in the first place. If he wants to take the moral high ground he should practice what he preaches and be tolerant of other peoples beliefs.
You don't see Christians blowing themselves up? Hate to burst your bubble but there are nut cases in every major religion. Look at the Christians who murder abortion doctors. Look at David Koresh and the Branch Davidians, Look at Jim Jones and 800 people committing mass suicide. The list goes on and on.
Basically what I am saying is the Pope was wrong and he should have kept his big mouth shut. Yes the Muslims took it out of context. But the Pope should have known better.
I am just glad I don't follow any major religion. It is all a bunch of crap!!!

do not neglect that this comparable guy grew to become into as quickly as interior the Hitler youngsters Brigade and suggested it grew to become into quite user-friendly for boys lower back then to connect. i think of he lives interior the previous and desperately tries to hold directly to an era the place adult males ruled each and every component of lifestyles and the Cardinals of the church have been dealt with like Prince's. all human beings is greater knowledgeable at the instant and could make up their very own minds what they do. He additionally tried to re-introduce Indulgences, meaning that in case you carry out specific prayers, or pilgrimages to specific holy web content then you certainly can score brownie factors to get into heaven. The church at one time, and distinctly the Pope used to sell those indulgences. They believed that what the Pope sure on earth grew to become into additionally binding in heaven. i don't even understand how he would desire to pass to Africa and notice all those unfavorable ravenous toddlers and understand that he lives in absolute opulence in his palace in Rome, desiring for not something. a minimum of the previous Pope, John Paul II grew to become right into a loving and compassionate guy who suggested that gay human beings would desire to be welcomed into the church and dealt with like human beings. It grew to become into not too some time past that there have been prayers being suggested, and those prayers have been interior the authentic prayer e book, for insidious Jews who have been completely to blame for killing Jesus, yet not one for the Romans who have been, if it have been authentic, the rightful killers. i'm not stunned in any respect him attempting to persuade human beings to not use condoms, which in itself could be a dying sentence if between the companions had AIDS.

His remarks were long overdue. He is just telling the situation as it is. Who will tell the blatant truth if not him?
If someone tells you something about your beliefs that you don't like, and you can't prove him/her wrong, what do you do? You can choose to accept the fact. If not? Then you get mad and hurl all manner of abuses and threats.
By such violent anger they just prove the point.

So now the muslims will start rioting and killing again just like they did over the Mohammed cartoons. Because they are such "non-violent" people, right?

As every one knows, our religious and political leaders are always right. I'm sure that was the case around the year 1000 too.
