i know that they are puppet muppets. but i know i read somewhere that each puppet actually had a specific ethnicity and i cannot locate where i read it so i am hoping you all can help. yes, they educate children and this is quite good. (especially about ethnic diversity) but i want to do know which ethnicities henson was looking to portray. for example, many people think bert and ernie are gay and i recall from the piece that i read which inspired this question that they were i believe puerto rican and columbian.

They are all Monsters.

I think most of them come the same area of the world as they all have similar features. There are some scary crossbreeds. If you remember the Muppet Show, there was a muppet called "Beaker" who was obviously a croosbreed between human and monster. But I won't conjecture his genetic background..
