http://www.amw.com/missing_children/brief.cfm?id=40266 Shotguns, Searches, and Still No Sign of Trenton Duckett
Authorities discovered the body of Trenton Duckett's young mother Melinda in her grandparent's home on September 8th. Police say she used her grandfather's gun to take her own life, not the shotgun she bought in a pawn shop two days before Trenton went missing. Investigators say she left behind some important clues that could help lead them to little Trenton.
I just wandered what everyone else thought happened to this little angel. I think that because the mother killed herself she probably killed her son. Their are so many reasons why. For example buying a gun two days before the alleged kidnapping, and dying her hair,as a mother I find her behavior desturbing.I Pray for that family.

As someone who grew up near where little Trenton disappeared, I am trying my best to be open-minded. I know from experience that allegations made to the police or to DCF are just that...allegations. You do not need any evidence to support the statements made.

Josh states that Melinda was a danger to her child. But Melinda also filed similiar police reports against Josh. For safety reasons, Trenton was taken by DCF and returned a few days later after Josh's allegations were found to be untrue.

Much will be said about Melinda's mental state. Obviously she was unbalanced to kill herself. Melinda heard Nancy Grace state that Trenton was dead. Ms. Grace bases this on the fact that most kidnapping result in a quick death of the child. This is why we are genuinely surprised when children like Elizabeth Smart are found alive months later.

I don't know much about her dying her hair. I do know she had her nails and makeup done before appearing on camera. But then so did Susan Smith. As an Asian woman, she has dark hair. I have never seen a picture of her with any color other than the brown.

Buying a gun is not unsual in certain areas of the country. Lake County being one of them, I'm afraid. She had an interest in law enforcement. She would therefore have an interest in learning to shoot. Many people around here own guns. We also have many forests for hunting. But from what I've seen in my research, the shotgun she purchased was tested and had not been fired.

Much hype was made when our local rag newspaper announced that she placed Trenton's car seat for sale in the classifieds the day after his birthday. He disappeared a week or so later. The local police for largely ignored this piece of information because they already knew that her Eclipse had a car seat IN IT and the apartment had a new car seat box. Also we get so bent out of shape because Britney Spears did not use a car seat, surely SOMEONE would have noticed if Melinda didn't USE hers for a week or two.

I do not trust polygraph tests for a variety of reasons. Nor do I trust DCF reports or injunctions. My husband has been down that road with his own unstable ex-wife. Also, I know plenty of people who are able to lie convincingly for the polygraph and also plenty of people who get so stressed out that they flunk it every time. There is a reason why the courts DO NOT ALLOW POLYGRAPHS. That reason is that polygraphs are UNRELIABLE.

I find Melinda's statements as strange as everyone else. But I find no concrete evidence that supports her murdering her own child.

What I would like to see is REAL EVIDENCE not CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE. It was circumstantial evidence that put Trenton's grandfather in prison for life. It was circumstantial evidence the Ms. Grace used to convict Melinda. We have now learned that Melinda was driving around aimlessly LOST for much of the 8 hours. I used to find that hard to believe but upon researching Heather Wendorf's parents murder, I have come to believe that getting lost is easy.

I pray that little Trenton is found quickly. I pray that his mother is either cleared or convicted on HARD evidence. Attacking the dead woman does not bring little Trenton home. Nor does jumping to conclusions.

I agree with Jenn's answer. We don't know if she did it or not...we don't know what really happened, because the mother is dead. I wonder, though, if Melinda really did committ a suicide, or if someone killed her and made it look like a suicide?

Josh appears to be the grieving father, but it could have been either parent that took him; or a relative; or a stranger; or perhaps Trenton really IS lost in the woods, or if he is with someone else. We may never know, but I hope they find him alive and well. They don't have much evidence, only the gun that she killed herself with, the missing baby, the car seat ad in the paper, and a dead mother.

I think the mother did it.
When Nancy Grace interviewed her ex (the father of the boy), he stated that the mother had emotional problems and tried to kill herself once before.

The father stated he thought "anything is possible", when asked if he thought the mother did it.
