Yes, the Aztec - if you mean North American, try Anastazi they were extinct, and the Hopi are believed to be their Decendants.
You might look up the Anastazi parks and submit an inquiry to the park rangers - they will know.
The Mayan may have been related to the Anastazi. I find no reference to either with Gold.

The Book of Mormon mentions two different civilizations, one of which became proficient in gold and other precious metal workings. Those peoples are the predecessors to the Mayan, the Aztec, the Toltecs, and other American Indian Nations.

uh, YEAH! why do you think the Spaniards were so crazy for the stuff? They saw the gold items of the natives and had to have it.
Montezuma sent to Cortes a large golden disc as a gift but this only whetted his appetite for more.
The Incas had gold and silver a-plenty. When Althaupa was captured by Pizarro, he caused a room to be filled with gold as ransom for his release.
The Moche culture in Peru that exist in the first millenium AD made gold ornaments.

Are you talking just North America or South America? In South America, the Chimu, Moche, Chavin, Wari and Aymara worked in gold before the Inca. They all pre-date 1500.
