reformatting is a drastic step. first try speaking to a local pc shop for advice. The staff are usually much more knowledgable than in a large superstore. Failing that i boot to my old win 98 rescue floppy and from the C:\ prompt type in format c or whatever is the drive you wish to format. then follow the onscreen instructions. Before you do this make sure you have backups of all the drivers and software you need to put back on when its done.

You'll need an XP install disk. Go into your BIOS and set your computer to boot from your CD drive. Insert the XP CD and restart. The windows install program will start automatically, at which point you simply follow the on-screen instructions.

Insert your disc and reboot. Boot from disc and follow instructions. If asked make it a new installation.
