I saw 1 episode and thought it was stupid so I never watched it again. Then season 2 started and my bf wanted to check it out even though I told him I thought it was stupid. Well, good thing because it was hilarious. I was wondering- was season 1 really bad or was it just me?

You know, the same thing happened to me. I watched the pilot episode (which was almost a word for word remake of the British pilot) and decided I wasn't interested...until I caught an episode of season 2 that made me absolutely fall in love with the show.
Having gone back to watch season 1, I think it's a little rocky. There were only six episodes in the first season and it seems like everyone was still getting a feel for their characters. Jim's changed subtley (and for the better), and there's a pretty big difference between season 1 Roy and season 2 Roy (he went from practically attacking Jim to being a little too trusting and naive).
If you want to catch some season one episodes, I'd suggest "Health Care", "The Alliance", and "Hot Girl". Those three are the only ones that have plotlines or jokes running into the second season.

Yeah, season 1 is pretty good. I love the episode where Dwight has to choose a health insurance plan.

I own the BBC version, which is the original. It is a treasure of mine. I occasionally watch the American version which is pretty good. However, I can't really get into it because the British version was absolutely perfect comedy.

i just watched all of season 1 on dvd and it's okay but season 2 is WAY funnier

Actually it was uneven. Some episodes were really funny. I'm sure it will be in syndication or on DVD soon.
