Its about Kurt Cobain's ex-girlfriend Tracy Marander.

FYI...Amandaholes 19's answer is WRONG! The info she gives is about a completely different song and album!

As far as I know, "About A Girl" was written inspired in a prostitute, like Police's "Roxanne".

It is not a Bowie's cover. The song Nirvana covered by Bowie was "The Man Who Sold The World".

It was an original inspired by Courtney Love...I absolutely love Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. May he R.I.P.

It is about Kurt's ex-girfriend Tracey, not Courtney love. He did not even know Courtney at the time he created the song.

i don't know if it is a cover, but that song is part of nirvana's first album, bleach for those who don't know, so i think is not a cover and i hope it isn't about courtney lover, the song is too old and too good for that
