Naughty boy, Michael!
I can read maps, my husband always falls asleep when it's my turn to drive and his turn to navigate! I have to memorise the way, let alone read it and understand it.
Then he wakes up and says where are we?

Maps are a boys thing. Men seem to be able to draw and read maps instinctively. Women find it harder to relate to maps and have to learn how they work. It all comes down to the way we developed.

For most of human existence, we were hunter gatherers. Societies varied, but usually the young men went off to hunt game while the women gathered fruit & veg. The old men sat around telling everyone what to do. (Not much change there then).

When hunting, it's handy to be able to climb up a tree or mountain and get the lie of the land and communicate this with your fellow hunters. This is how maps developed. Then natural selection set in - men who couldn't read maps tended to get eaten. However, the skill was not so necessary for gatherers.

Most women have brains over bronze, Weather women read maps all of the time! Not all women are dumb, It's not a question of wheather or not a woman could read a map, it is "who," could read a map! Most intelligent people could read maps, it's not like rocket science! If you took any woman and taught them how to do a so called man's job, they could do it. I mean look at world war 2. You should really be asking yourself this question, " why oh why didn't I pass in history class?".

I think women are better at reading maps than men. I was remembering a comedy show(back in the seventies) that was talking about women being trained as astronauts."That good, because if the crew ever gets lost in space,it's the female astronaut that's going to have to get out and ask a complete stranger for directions."

Not at all! If it wasn't for one woman (Me) reading maps and acting as navigator all teh time when we take the camper ... We'd never reach our destinatuion nor ould we return home. Seriously! My partner is useless at map reading. I have to do it all the time, never mind find a way back to the road we should follow when he decides there's better way to 'Save time'. I didn't mind ending up in a field one night (We could back out and get back to my itinerary plan that did take us home, if ... I truly resented ended up inh a public dump and find myself knee high in muck because the camper was stuck. O and my daughter is the same! Same problem with her boyfriend but i wouldn'y call it genetic!

What? Where in the world did you get this? I happen to be able to read maps very well. My hubby and I travel extensively and I am the navigator. He is terrible at reading maps and gets lost everytime.

Is it genetic that men won't ask for directions? LOL

No, it is not true. I can read a map better than most people can. I have driven taxi cab and so has my husband so I used to read the map for him all the time. We have also traveled quite a bit so I have always been able to read a map.

If it were true I'd get lost every time we went on a trip. My wife reads the map. I can, but I'm driving. Besides, us men aren't smart enough to ask directions.
