its just a random thing, they mean nothing except that they are different. i really cant answer your question as fingerprints serve no purpose in a persons functioning.

The science of fingerprints is an applied science. Its foundation of uniqueness and permanence is well established in the sciences of anatomy, embryology, and genetics. When we also include the sciences supporting fingerprint development or enhancement techniques, we would add chemistry, physics, photography, and computer sciences. The identification process is an application of scientific comparison methodology.

Present on the inner surface of the fingers and hands (palmar) and the bottom surface of the feet (plantar) is skin which is corrugated or rough. This “volar” skin consists of raised portions which are known as ridges. These “papillary” ridges do not run from one side of the hand or the finger to the other in a continuous stream, but are broken and non-continuous. The arrangement of these ridges, like all natural things, is unique. The raised ridges increase the frictional qualities of these surfaces, aiding in the ability to grasp items, thus the term “friction skin”.

Present on the top of the friction skin, or papillary ridges are minute sweat pores which exude perspiration. This perspiration, as well as other contaminants, may adhere to the surface of these ridges. When an object is touched and the residue is transferred or deposited, a recording of these ridges may be left on the item. The word “latent” by definition means invisible. This type of print needs some kind of powder, chemical, or electronic processing, or enhancement, to make the latent print visible. However, “the term latent print is commonly applied to all chance or unintentional impressions of evidentiary values”1, whether visible or hidden

A human fingerprint is an impression pattern left on any hard smooth surface by the ridged dermis (skin) (called friction ridges) of the fingertip.[1] Fingerprints are commonly held to be an infallible method of uniquely identifying an individual, but it's more an art than science: most state and federal level crime labs will not report a fingerprint match until two experts independently reach that conclusion.[2]

Fingerprint identification (sometimes referred to as dactyloscopy) is the process of comparing questioned and known friction skin ridge impressions (see Minutiae) from fingers, palms, and toes to determine if the impressions are from the same finger (or palm, toe, etc.). The flexibility of friction ridge skin means that no two finger or palm prints are ever exactly alike (never identical in every detail), even two impressions recorded immediately after each other. The fundamentals of fingerprint identification are permanence and individuality. In theory, significant fingerprint characteristics are determined by environment in the 3rd and 4th lunar months of gestation, and do not change.[2] In practice, scars and warts can modify fingerprints somewhat.[2] Popularly, no two individuals, including identical twins, are thought to have the same fingerprints.[2] In 1892, Sir Francis Galton found that the typical fingerprint has 35-50 identification points ("minutiae") and the odds of two being alike is 1 in 64 billion. With a 2006 world population[3] of 6.5 billion individuals (and thus 65 billion fingertips), it would be impossible for all of them to be different.[4] In practice, however, identifications are commonly made from as 8 to 12 minutiae.[5] Using only a fifth of the minutae would reduce the potential number of different fingerprints.

Ordinary fingerprints made of sweat, sebum, dirt, and skin contaminants are called latent fingerprints, to distinguish them from the comparison imprints deliberately taken with inked fingers on "fingerprint cards".[6]

The fingertips are not the only part of the human body with friction ridges. It's also found on the entire dorsal length of the fingers, the palm, and the corresponding skin of the toes and foot[7] and it has been used for forensic identification as well.[8]

This means that your fingerprints are unique among nearly every one million fingreprints. In other words, your fingerprints match with few hunderd other people in this world. But you never know with whom?
