Andy is almost correct when he mentions the European law protocol, if he looks more into the act he will find that that law only applies to Criminal acts.
It is still legal to apply the death sentence here in the U.K and there are two offences that carry that sentence.
(1) Setting fire to Her Majesty's Docks.
(2) Treason.
There are still working gallows at Wandsworth prison that are checked on a regular basis.
You cannot be hung for Industrial Espionage in this country and the maximum fine for just that charge is twelve years, this can be increased depending on what other crimes were committed.

Not true. There may be a law that theoretically allows the death penalty for treason (I've seen this stated but never bothered to check), but capital punishment is illegal under the European Convention on Human Rights Protocol 6, incorporated into UK law by the Human Rights Act 1998.

paulleigh2002 does not have his facts right either. Capital punishment for arson in a royal dockyard was abolished in 1971. In 1998, we saw the final "death" of capital punishment, when it was replaced with life imprisoment for treason and piracy. Below is the Hansard record of the discussion in the House of Lords at the time - it's actually a quite interesting read, surprisingly.
