I've heard alot of opinions on this from Ramones to Sex Pistols to the Damned. I was just curious to see if anybody knows for certain what was the first full-length Punk Rock record ever?

This is a prickly subject - nice question!

The first band that ever had the label "punk" applied to them was ? and The Mysterians (though the label was slapped on them well after they had their biggest hits). Their first album was "96 Tears" (1966) so an argument could be made that's the first US punk record.

Lenny Kaye referred to the garage rock bands he compiled for the first "Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968" record in 1971 as punk, too (Seeds, Sonics, Standells, Shadows of Knight, etc), so maybe those bands' records are the original punk records.

If you don't go for the 60s garage band thing, then I guess Iggy & The Stooges or The Velevet Underground might qualify. If you're dismissing the 1960s altogether, then it has to be The New York Dolls' 1973 eponymous album.

In the UK, The Damned beat The Sex Pistols to the record bins by 8 months. "Damned Damned Damned" was released Feb 18, 1977. "Never Mind..." came out in October of that year.

Patti Smith, "Horses"

Although the term "punk" was used to describe some '60s bands, and the attitude was influenced by bands such as the Rolling Stones, Patti Smith was the first of what we now consider Punk music. Her first album, "Horses," was released in 1975 and influenced many of the later punk bands.
